What is FUE hair transplant?

FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

FUE hair transplant is one of the most effective and popular methods for hair loss treatment. FUE is a method of extracting hair follicles from one area of the body and using those as donor follicles to be transplanted to the desired region. In FUE hair transplants, an instrument is used to make a small, circular incision in the skin around a follicular unit to separate it from the surrounding tissue. The circular incision around the hair follicle is approximately 1-mm in diameter. The unit is then extracted (pulled) directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole.

This process is repeated until the hair transplant surgeon has gathered enough follicular units for the planned hair restoration. This process can take one or more hours and in large sessions, may be accomplished during two sessions on two consecutive days. The donor area completely heals over the course of seven to ten days, leaving nearly-invisible small circular white scars buried in the hair in the back and sides of the scalp.

This method of donor-follical extraction, removing follicular units one-by-one directly from the scalp, is what differentiates the FUE hair transplant from a traditional Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), where the donor hair is removed from the scalp in one thin, long strip and then subsequently dissected into individual follicular units using a stereomicroscope.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant uses most advanced technology currently available in the field of hair transplants and hair restoration. It is the most popular method among patients because it is the least invasive procedure. There is no use of scalpels or any stitches required, minimal to no scarring, and an incredibly fast recovery time. FUE involves the removal of individual hair follicles from one part of the patients body and transplanting them into the area desired by the patient.
